Chavez Cyrillus Mariae Poon is a young Traditionalist Roman Catholic layman in full communion with the Holy See. Born and raised in Hong Kong, he now resides in Walsingham, Norfolk, in the United Kingdom, one of England’s foremost places of pilgrimage and affectionately known as “England’s Nazareth.”
He is an freelance independent writer, journalist, and social media content creator with a particular interest in the sacred liturgy, the historic traditions of the Roman Catholic Church, ecclesiastical history, and contemporary Roman Catholic affairs. Through his writing, media and content creating work, he seeks to present the richness of the Church’s liturgical and spiritual heritage in a faithful, accessible, and engaging manner.
Chavez has also volunteered with EWTN Great Britain, assisting with the filming and media coverage of Catholic events, including the Corpus Christi Procession in London. He later participated in the EWTN Summer Academy 2026 in Rome, where he further developed his interest in Catholic journalism, digital evangelisation, and media communications.
Alongside his work in Catholic media and content creation, Chavez has more than ten years of ceremonial and liturgical experience, having served as an Acolyte, Sacristan and Liturgical Master of Ceremonies at Holy Mass and other sacred liturgical celebrations in various parishes and ecclesiastical communities throughout Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. His particular interests include the Roman Rite in both its Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms, the Ambrosian Rite, liturgical history, sacred ceremonial, and ecclesiastical heraldry.
Besides his work in Catholic ministry and journalism, he has developed a strong interest in web design and digital communication. He has designed and maintained websites for personal projects, blogs, and Catholic initiatives using platforms such as WordPress, DokuWiki, Jekyll, and HTML/CSS. He focuses on creating visually appealing, easy-to-navigate sites with clear presentation, reliability, and accessibility, combining thoughtful design with practical functionality to help individuals and organisations communicate their mission effectively.
He is also an enthusiast of liturgical typography and book design. Using LaTeX, he produces liturgical books and ceremonial resources, making them freely available through open-source platforms to support the study and celebration of the Church’s liturgy.
Through his writing, liturgical service, content creating and social media apostolate, Chavez hopes to foster a deeper appreciation of the beauty of the Church’s worship, the continuity of Catholic tradition, and the faithful transmission of the message of the Holy Gospels.
