For the benefit of those who may have come upon this website by providence rather than design, I offer here a brief and potted account of my life.
My name is Chavez L. H. Poon, and my baptismal name is “Cyrillus Mariae”. I was born in Hong Kong on 14 June 2003, during the period of the SARS pandemic. From an early age, my imagination and affections were drawn to the beauty of historic ecclesiastical architecture and the richness of the sacred arts. During my primary school years, under the formative influence of a Catholic educational environment, I was received into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Baptism in 2012, at the age of eight.
In my years of higher education, I began a serious and prayerful consideration of a possible vocation to the sacred priesthood. At that time, I regarded such a calling as beyond my natural capacity, doubting my strength and suitability for the demands of priestly formation. Nevertheless, through ongoing discernment, I have come to recognise that the designs of Divine Providence often transcend human expectation. Whether the Lord calls one to the ordained ministry or to a fully dedicated life as a lay member of Christ’s faithful, each vocation finds its meaning in fidelity to God’s will and service to His Church.
Within this context of discernment, I developed a profound attachment to the Western (Latin) Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly in its liturgical, ceremonial, and spiritual expressions. For more than ten years, I have served the Church as a Ceremoniere (Liturgical Master of Ceremonies), assisting at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and at other sacred liturgical functions, ordinarily by invitation or appointment. In support of this service, I have also prepared various liturgical and ceremonial texts, including Orders of Mass, altar cards, and other materials intended to foster reverence, order, and fidelity to the Church’s liturgical tradition.
In January 2023, I was enrolled in the Confraternity of Saint Peter (Confraternitas Sancti Petri, CSP), a pious association of the faithful spiritually united to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. Members of the Confraternity support the apostolate of the Fraternity principally through daily prayer and spiritual solidarity, thereby participating in its mission to preserve and promote the sacred liturgical patrimony of the Church.
In addition to my ecclesial commitments, I have maintained a longstanding interest in Information Technology, originating in my early school years. In particular, I enjoy the collection and preservation of historical computer systems and operating platforms, reflecting an appreciation for technological development and continuity.
It must be acknowledged that the Christian life is not without trials, moments of discouragement, or periods of uncertainty. Yet, in reflecting upon my own journey, I increasingly perceive the quiet and faithful guidance of Divine Providence, ordering events according to a wisdom beyond my own. I give thanks to Almighty God for the many individuals He has placed in my life, including priests, religious, friends, and benefactors, who have supported me through their counsel, example, charity, and prayers.
Above all, I render thanks to God for the gift of faith and for the grace of perseverance within the Roman Catholic Church for more than a decade. In gratitude and humility, I seek to continue my life in fidelity to Christ and His Church, confident in the mercy of God and trusting always in His most loving providence.
