One of the greatest spiritual lessons I have learned is that holiness is not something reserved for priests, religious, or missionaries. Rather, it is a calling given to every baptised Christian. This beautiful truth, so faithfully preached by St. Josemar\u00eda Escriv\u00e1, has deeply influenced my own spiritual journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a young Catholic originally from Hong Kong and now living in the United Kingdom, my faith has been shaped by many different experiences. I have had the privilege of serving the Catholic Church for over a decade as an acolyte and liturgic master of ceremonies, assisting at the Sacred Liturgy in Hong Kong, Macau, and the United Kingdom. Alongside my love for the Church\u2019s rich liturgical tradition, I have also been discerning God\u2019s will for my life, particularly the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During this journey of discernment, I began attending the activities and formation offered by the Prelature of Opus Dei. Through the monthly recollections, annual retreats, doctrinal talks, spiritual direction, and moments of prayer, I discovered a spirituality that was both simple and profoundly transformative. It reminded me that the path to holiness is found not only at the altar or within the walls of a church, but also in the ordinary responsibilities of daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
St. Josemar\u00eda Escriv\u00e1, the founder of Opus Dei, taught that work can become a path to sanctity when it is carried out with love of God and a spirit of service. Whether I am serving at Holy Mass, writing articles on the life of the Church, volunteering in Catholic media, or simply carrying out the ordinary duties of each day, I have come to see that every task can become an offering to God. The ordinary, when united to Christ, becomes extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This message has been particularly meaningful as I continue discerning my vocation. It has reminded me that holiness is not something postponed until one discovers a definitive calling. Whether God calls me to the priesthood or to remain a layman, my first vocation is always to become a saint in the current modern world. Every stage of life is an opportunity to grow closer to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spirituality of Opus Dei has also encouraged me to seek unity of life. Our Catholic faith should not be limited to Sundays or moments of prayer. It should shape the way we work, study, serve others, and interact with the world. As Catholics, we are called to be witnesses to Christ wherever Providence has placed us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our Lord Himself spent most of His earthly life in the hidden simplicity of Nazareth before beginning His public ministry. Those silent years remind us that ordinary work, family life, and daily responsibilities possess immense spiritual value when lived in union with God. Likewise, St. Paul exhorts us: \u201cWhatever you do, do everything for the glory of God\u201d (1 Corinthians 10:31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking back, I am grateful for the many graces I have received through the apostolate of Opus Dei. The friendships I have formed, the formation I have received, and the encouragement to seek God in ordinary life have all helped me grow in my relationship with Christ. They have strengthened my desire to live my Catholic faith with greater fidelity and to strive for holiness in every aspect of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As St. Josemar\u00eda beautifully wrote, \u201cEither we learn to find our Lord in ordinary, everyday life, or else we shall never find Him.\u201d<\/em> Those words continue to inspire me each day. They remind me that sanctity is not achieved through extraordinary achievements, but through fidelity, perseverance, and love in the ordinary circumstances of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2028 will be the 100th anniversary of the founding of Opus Dei. In this special occasion, may we all learn to sanctify our work, our studies, our service to the Church, and our daily responsibilities, so that every moment may become an offering of love to God.
